East Ayrshire: a celebration of Homes for Life
September 18 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The East Ayrshire Federation of Tenants and Residents in conjunction with East Ayrshire Council are holding a celebration and presentation on the theme ‘homes for life’ on Wednesday 18th 1pm-3pm.
Come along and hear how in East Ayrshire we are enabling people to remain in their homes for longer, through the ‘East Ayrshire Care and Repair service’ and the “Housing Occupational Therapy Team.”
The East Ayrshire Care and Repair service is a joint funded initiative between East Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Government, and is managed by Shire Housing Association. The aim of the Care and Repair service is to enable people to remain in their own homes for as long as it is practical and safe to do so. It can do so by reducing the level of accidents in the home and preventing the need for hospital admissions. The service is available to owner occupiers and private tenants who are over 60 years of age or have a disability at any age. The project is also designed to assist clients in hospital return to their own homes, through the provision of works in the home to make them suitable for their return.
The Housing Occupational Therapy Team’s main role is to assess applicants who are applying for housing due to their current property impacting on their health and or disability. The Team of 6 workers are based within the Housing Register team and complete assessments which focus on applicants functional difficulties within their current property taking account of both physical and mental health. The team carry out assessments award a priority, if applicable, and make house type recommendations to ensure applicants are housed in properties which will meet their long term needs providing applicants with the best opportunity to remain living within their homes for longer.
